leviathan, or the whale

This is a link to Philip Hoare's blog. He wrote the astounding book 'leviathan, or the whale' an utterly entrancing trace of humanities relationship with cetaceans. I read it a few years ago, am currently re-reading it and think it is an absolute modern classic, both thematically and descriptively. it feels so honest and from the heart, dealing with the often traumatic human history of whaling and delving into greater ideas about a connection to the world and mistreatment of things we should cherish.
